Synopsis
"Rattling the Keys" delves into the lives of five teenagers in the remote town of Coober Pedy, South Australia. Facing isolation, limited opportunities, and scarce resources, they turn to crystal methamphetamine as a coping mechanism. During a relentless heatwave, a neighboring teenage boy is murdered. Under the influence of the drug, Teddy and Kai fear they might be responsible. With a police investigation underway, the group anxiously awaits the impending knock on their door. The play explores themes of addiction, mental illness, and the challenges of rural life. Notably, it won the 2018 State Theatre Company of South Australia and Flinders University Junior Young Playwrights’ Award.
